Background

How does it work?

The purpose of Shiatsu is to re-establish healthy, unobstructed energy (Ki, Qi) flow throughout the body. A therapist achieves this by stimulating pressure points, dispersing tension, painĀ and freeing up joints. This allows the body to find its own balance and encourages you to strive for optimal health, both mentally & physically.

Shiatsu is based on a Japanese form of massage and is rooted in Oriental medicine. The word ‘Shiatsu’ translates literally as ‘finger pressure’, although in reality, we may use thumb, finger, elbow or even knee pressure within the massage.

Regular and consistent Shiatsu treatments can become an important aspect of preventative health care as well as treatment for existing symptoms.
